How TruPrice's Used Car Price Calculator Works

Three stages combine to produce Pakistan's most accurate used car fair value — trained on real Pakistan market data, adjusted for condition, mileage, and negotiation reality.

Updated July 2026

Stage 1

XGBoost Market Price

An XGBoost model trained on real Pakistan car market listings predicts the market asking price for any make, model, variant, year, mileage, assembly, and city. This is Stage 1 — what the market would list the car at, before negotiation or condition.

Stage 2

Age-Relative Condition

Vehicle inspection scores (0–100 per section) are compared against age and category par scores — not fixed thresholds. An 80% engine score is Excellent on a 12-year-old Mehran but only Fair on a new Civic. Each section below par triggers a discount from the baseline price.

Stage 3

Market-Aware Negotiation Buffer

Pakistan's negotiation dynamics are baked in. SUVs sell close to asking price; older economy hatchbacks have much more room. The buffer adapts to both car category and age bracket — deducted from the asking price to get the transaction baseline before condition discounts.

The Inspection System

8 inspection sections, each scored 0–100. Condition is always relative to par score = what a car of this age and category is expected to score.

Deviation → Condition

deviation = actual_score − par_score
Thresholds tighten for newer cars (higher pars) and loosen for older ones.

★ Excellent At or above par (≥ +2 to +10 depending on age)
✓ Good Slightly below par (−5 to −12 range)
~ Fair Notably below par (−15 to −35 range)
⚠ Poor Significantly below par — needs attention

Section Discount Rates

What Makes TruPrice Different

🎯
Age-Relative Scoring
A 10-year-old car is judged by different standards than a new one. Par scores adapt to age and car class.
🏷️
Category-Aware Negotiation
SUV sellers have leverage; economy hatchbacks have more room. Buffer rates reflect real Pakistan market dynamics.
🔬
Variant-Level Accuracy
Corolla GLi and Altis Grande are very different cars. Our model tracks 143 trim variants across all makes.
📊
Mileage Verdict
We predict expected km for each car profile — flag high-mileage odometer readings before you buy.

Frequently Asked Questions

How accurate is TruPrice's used car price calculator?
TruPrice is trained on 266,059 real Pakistan used-car market listings — not just listed asking prices. The model captures the actual price paid after negotiation, adjusted for car category, age bracket, mileage, and inspection condition. For popular models like Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic, and Suzuki Cultus, estimates are typically within 3–7% of real transaction prices.
What is the difference between asking price and fair price?
In Pakistan's used car market, sellers typically list cars 10–20% above what they expect to receive. The asking price is what you see on PakWheels or OLX. The fair price is what a car in a given condition would realistically change hands for after negotiation. TruPrice calculates the fair price — not the inflated listing price.
Do I need to provide inspection scores to get a result?
No. Inspection scores are optional. Without them, TruPrice produces a fair price based on the car's specs, year, mileage, and city — assuming average condition. If you do provide inspection scores, the result is more precise and will show exactly how the car's condition affects its value, section by section.
How is mileage factored into the used car value?
TruPrice has a separate mileage model that predicts the expected kilometres for a car given its make, variant, year, and usage profile. Your actual mileage is compared against that expected figure. A verdict of Low, Normal, or High mileage is shown alongside the fair price — helping you spot odometer tampering or unusually worn cars before purchase.
Is TruPrice free to use?
Yes, completely free. No signup, no registration, no hidden fees. TruPrice is an independent tool built to bring price transparency to Pakistan's second-hand car market. Use it as many times as you like.
How much can I negotiate on a used car in Pakistan?
Typically 3–7% of the asking price, depending on the car's category and age. TruPrice calculates this negotiation buffer automatically and shows it as the difference between Asking Price and Base Price. For a PKR 40 lac sedan, expect PKR 1.2–2.8 lacs of negotiation room. Poor inspection scores — engine issues, worn tyres, brake problems — can justify pushing lower than the standard buffer.
Does used car price vary by city in Pakistan?
Yes — used car prices in Pakistan vary by 5–15% between cities. Karachi generally has the most competitive pricing due to higher supply. Lahore and Islamabad prices run slightly higher for popular sedans and SUVs. TruPrice's XGBoost model is trained on city-level transaction data — when you select your city in the assessor, the base price adjusts automatically for local market conditions.
How do I know if a used car listing is overpriced?
Enter the car's details into TruPrice's Fair Price Assessor. If the seller's asking price is higher than TruPrice's fair price estimate, the listing is priced above market. TruPrice's model is trained on 266,059 real Pakistan market listings — any asking price more than 8–10% above the fair price estimate is a strong signal to negotiate hard or walk away.
