If your car has been sitting on OLX or PakWheels for weeks with plenty of views but no serious offers, it is tempting to blame the photos, the description, or the platform. It is almost never any of those. It is the price. This guide gives you a fast, data-backed way to check whether your listing is overpriced — and exactly how to fix it.
The number-one reason listings sit unsold
Buyers on both PakWheels and OLX search by budget. Someone looking for a car “up to 40 lacs” sets that filter and never sees anything priced at 44. So if your car is priced above the fair market value, it simply does not appear in the search results of the buyers who could actually afford it. You are invisible to your real market.
That is why great photos won’t rescue an overpriced ad — the people who would love those photos never see the listing in the first place.
How to benchmark your price against the market
Overpricing is easy to diagnose objectively. You need one reliable reference point: the fair market price for your exact car.
TruPrice calculates this from 155,231 validated listings — de-duplicated from 266,059 collected across the Pakistan market — adjusted for year, variant, mileage, city, and condition. Run your car through the Fair Price Calculator and compare the result to your current asking price.
As a reality check, here is what typical cars actually trade around, by body type (median asking price and the middle 50% range, in PKR lacs):
| Segment | Median | Typical range (p25–p75) | Listings |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hatchback | 18.2 | 10.3 – 27.0 | 67,158 |
| Sedan | 36.5 | 25.5 – 49.0 | 60,355 |
| Crossover | 62.9 | 57.7 – 68.9 | 12,230 |
| SUV | 80.0 | 70.5 – 96.0 | 5,714 |

If your asking price sits above the p75 (top of the typical range) for your segment and year, you are in overpriced territory and should expect a slow sale.
Signs your listing is overpriced
Run through this checklist. The more that apply, the more certain the diagnosis:
- The ad has plenty of views but almost no calls or chats.
- The few enquiries you get open with a much lower number and go quiet when you hold firm.
- Your price is at or above the top of the range for your model and year on TruPrice and in the PakWheels/OLX clusters.
- Comparable cars listed after yours have already sold.
- You priced based on what you paid, what you owe, or the single highest ad you found.
PakWheels vs OLX: same problem, slightly different audience
- On PakWheels, buyers research and compare against market data, so overpricing is caught quickly and your ad is quietly passed over.
- On OLX, the audience is broader and more price-sensitive, so an overpriced ad gets even less traction and more low-ball messages.
Neither platform rewards overpricing. The fix is the same on both: correct the price to the market.
How to re-anchor and relist
- Get the fair price. Run the car through TruPrice with an honest condition assessment.
- Set the new asking price at the fair price plus a modest 3–7% buffer — not more.
- Refresh or repost the ad so it re-enters buyers’ searches at the corrected price.
- Respond fast. On OLX especially, speed of reply is a major factor in who closes the deal.
Sellers who re-anchor to a data-based price almost always see enquiries pick up within days, because for the first time the ad is reaching buyers who can actually pay.
The bottom line
An overpriced listing is not a marketing problem you can boost your way out of — it is a visibility problem you price your way out of. Check your asking price against the fair market price and the price index, correct it to within a normal negotiation buffer, and relist. The car that “wouldn’t sell” usually sells quickly once it is priced where buyers are actually looking.
